Name: Marconi-RCA Wireless Museum - "Chatham Heard Round The World"
    Date: November 23, 2018
    Time: 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM EST
Original Operating Building houses the maritime Wireless History gallery
    Event Description:
If possible, allow an hour and a half to visit the museum.
In the Wireless History Gallery, see this year's new exhibit: "Chatham Heard Round The World" celebrating the 70th anniversary of the powerful RCA radio transmitting station formerly located in South Chatham on the shores of Nantucket Sound with a (literally) big new display.  The exhibit’s centerpiece is one of the station’s seventeen large RCA model SSB T-3 twenty kiloWatt transmitters, refurbished to its original appearance.
Explore Guglielmo Marconi’s life and legacy, RCA’s dominant 20th Century Ship-to-Shore Chatham Radio WCC era - the "Largest US coastal station in the marine service", and Chatham Navy Radio’s WWII years as a secret facility for intercepting Enigma-encrypted U-Boat messages.  An authentic Enigma cipher machine is displayed, and working electronic simulators allow visitors to try their hand at encryption.
In the Wireless Today Gallery, learn how the search for a cooler, smaller vacuum tube led to the cell phone you're holding in your hand!  Use our new smartphone-based UniGuide audio tour to enhance your experience.  Follow the evolution of digital technology from tubes to transistors to tiny, complex integrated circuits.  See what's inside a drone, try your hand at our drone flight simulator, and discover the surprising connection between the "Drones" exhibit and the updated “Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of WWII” exhibit!  These all join popular exhibits about locating Great White sharks via satellite and live tracking of ships at sea off Cape Cod.
The public is always welcome to walk the grounds and the outdoor Antenna Field Trail exhibit, a winding path through the flora and fauna of Cape Cod with interpretive signs identifying and describing the station’s antennas, during daylight hours.  Explore our website or call 508-945-8889 for information.
