WEST CHATHAM - MAIN STREET INTERSECTIONS AND CORRIDOR PROJECT NTER-ACTIVE PUBLIC FORUM
Chatham Community Center
702 Main Street, Chatham, MA 02633
2nd Floor - Large Conference Room
December 17, 2009 - 7:00 PM
As part of the Town’s ongoing efforts to improve the conditions along Main Street in West Chatham, An Inter-Active Public Forum has been scheduled to “kickoff” the engineering design process for potential improvements to the Barn Hill Road / Main Street and George Ryder Road / Main Street intersections and Main Street in the West Chatham corridor on December 17, 2009 at 7:00 PM in the Large Conference Room of the Chatham Community Center. Building off the analysis conducted and concepts generated as part of the West Chatham Grant study and the Project Need Form (PNF) submitted to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation - MassDOT (formerly Massachusetts Highway Department - MHD), the goal of this meeting is to provide the first of several planned opportunities for interested stakeholders and citizens to provide input into the development of engineered alternative concepts to put forward to MassDOT.
The Town of Chatham has recently contracted with Fay, Spofford and Thorndike or “FST” to provide traffic design services to start an engineering level analysis of potential project alternatives. The final deliverable for this contract will be a Project Initiation Form or PIF to be submitted to the State to achieve the next milestone in the planning process for projects on State highways.
This “charrette” style meeting will feature a brief overview of the history and background of planning for the corridor, an overview of the MHD design process, with bulk of the meeting being devoted to the exchange of ideas in a “hands on” fashion facilitated by FST. Representatives from FST and the Town of Chatham will be in attendance to respond to any questions or comments. The information gathered at this meeting will be incorporated into the development of potential alternatives to be considered by stakeholders and citizens at a subsequent public meeting in early winter of 2010.
Project background information is available for review and download on the Town’s website under Town Projects at http://www.chatham-ma.gov/Public_Documents/ChathamMA_WebDocs/residents
or in hardcopy at Town Offices Annex, 595 Main Street. Additional meetings and presentations will be scheduled throughout the design process for this project. Questions on the upcoming Public Informational Meeting can be directed to: Jeff Colby, DPW Superintendent (508) 945-5155 – jcolby@chatham-ma.gov or Terry Whalen, Principal Planner, (508) 945-5168 – twhalen@chatham-ma.gov.
