WORK ON SAGAMORE BRIDGE WILL RESUME ON SATURDAY, MARCH 6

Published on Friday, March 05, 2010

After another day of inclement weather, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District has delayed plans to start deck repairs and other work on the Sagamore Bridge until early morning on Saturday, March 6th. Message boards were updated to reflect this changed information.

The work will only allow one lane of traffic in each direction - one lane onto the Cape and one lane off the Cape. No wide loads will be permitted over the Sagamore Bridge. The lane restrictions will be in place 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Plans are to complete the work by late spring, prior to Memorial Day.

These pavement/waterproofing repairs are essential to protecting the underlying steel/concrete grid deck in order to maintain the structural integrity and safety of the bridge.

Message boards, located at both approaches to the Sagamore Bridge, will keep motorists advised of work efforts. Also, previously installed fixed signage at all approach roads to the Sagamore Bridge will alert motorists to the bridge work and associated travel restrictions. State and local police will be on duty at all times work is being performed to assist the motoring public.

More information on the work can be obtained from the Corps' webpage under Bridge Notices . Also, people can sign up on the webpage to receive Bridge Work Alerts to keep them updated on any changes to the bridge work.

For more information on this and other Corps projects, in New England go to Corps website at http://www.nae.usace.army.mil. Also, the Corps will be using its Facebook page and Twitter page to give immediate updates on any changes to the bridge work.
