Friends of Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge Summer Lecture Series: "A Lifetime on Monomoy"
As a life-long shellfish and fin fisherman, Jamie Bassett knows Monomoy intimately. For over three decades in all weather conditions and seasons, Jamie has traveled to Monomoy in order to work the tides and bring back some of the cleanest and most pristine seafood product available in the North East. While geographically less than a mile from the mainland at its nearest point, Monomoy might as well be a world away. It is a faraway place extending out into the Atlantic Ocean for eight miles. The majestic landscape and seascape of Monomoy stretch for as far as the eye can see and present the adventurer with a unique tapestry of nature that belies and camouflages the intense activity of this island's truly wild kingdom. What is it like spending a day on Monomoy? What is it like spending 500 days on Monomoy? What does one see during a day? What does one perceive during a lifetime? Please come to our event to hear and learn about one man's deep immersion into Monomoy, one of America's vast wilderness areas and the crown jewel of our nation's north eastern coast.
