Boston-based Skylark Vocal Ensemble will present a concert entitled “Remembrance” on Sunday, May 26, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
With “Remembrance," Skylark offers a stunningly beautiful tribute to America’s fallen heroes, with music taken from times of conflict over our nation’s history.
Beginning with gritty revolutionary hymns of William Billings, and carrying through popular folk tunes and bluegrass music of the 20th and 21st centuries, Skylark’s signature programming is sure to appeal to a broad audience. The program includes many well-known hymns, including Amazing Grace and the Navy Hymn, with stunning solos and pristine ensemble work, along with more recent compositions familiar to Skylark audiences: Elder’s beautiful Elegy, Kirchener’s Angel Band, and others. Skylark’s closing set will include Take him Earth, for Cherishing written by British composer Herbert Howells to commemorate American President John F. Kennedy.
The concert will be held in the church’s sanctuary at 625 Main St., Chatham. To learn more or to purchase tickets in advance, go to www.skylarkensemble.org. Tickets $30 general admission | $10 veterans, students, and music educators. At the door: $30 general; $10 veterans/students/music educators. For every ticket sold, Skylark will donate a portion of proceeds to a local veteran’s organization. Tickets will also be available at the door.
