The play centers on the friendship between Lisa and Katja (both with Jewish mothers), who meet at an art school in Berlin during WWII. They share a love of art, music, and life. Katja meets a talented potter named Cato, who recruits the girls into a resistance group eventually dubbed ?The Red Orchestra? by the Gestapo. The friends serve as couriers and embark on dangerous missions. Against all odds, Lisa and Katja survive.
