• Earth Day Town-Wide Clean Up - April 27, 2024

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The Chatham Conservation Foundation is proud to partner with over 25 local organizations plus many businesses and individual  residents  for this year's Earth Day town-wide clean up on April 27th.  Starting at the Mayo House, headquarters of CCF, trash bags, gloves and pickers will be handed out with specific routes all over town. Chief Anderson of the Chatham Police Department will have officers patrolling throughout town  to insure everyone's safety, Dunkin Donuts will be helping fuel this endeavor (be kind to the earth and bring your own refillable mug) and Chatham Hardware will be supplying materials.

The Friends of Trees will be giving out free whips (tree saplings) at a number of locations throughout the week and will also be hosting guided tours. Friends of Sylvan Gardens will offer guided tours as well and CCF will be sponsoring a variety of talks and webinars, including  Foraging in Your Own Backyard with Russ Cohen, Tree Identification with Tom Walker, and Southern Pine Beetle on Cape Cod with AmeriCorps Member Sara Abbitt. Lauren Arcomano, CCF Executive Director will be speaking in person at the Center for Active Living talking about the rich history of the environment movement, specifically around the lower cape and Chatham and CCF's tenure as the first land trust on the Cape.

The highlight of the week will be a keynote forum at Chatham Bars Inn featuring Greg Berman and Janet Williams, Time and Tide Wait for No Man; Chatham's Journey Towards Coastal Resilience.    This ever-important topic will be a moderated discussion with Tim Wood of the Cape Cod Chronicle, come with your questions and learn what Chatham is doing to address the concerns of sea-level rise and coastal erosion.

What started as a small group of concerned citizens last year, including St Chris' Faith Honoring Earth Committee, Chatham Conservation Foundation and Friends of Trees has grown into a truly collaborative endeavor with so many partners and supporters.

All events during Earth Week-Arbor Week are FREE  but registration is required. For more information, to join in on the town-wide clean up or to register for any of the myriad of programs please go to the CCF website at ccfinc.org.
