Cape Cod Baseball League Teams and Divisions
Ten teams compete in two five-team divisions. The West Division covers the Upper and Mid Cape, and the East Division covers the Lower Cape. Each team plays its home games at a local field, most behind a town school or in a town park:
- West Division: Bourne Braves (Doran Park, Bourne), Cotuit Kettleers (Lowell Park, Cotuit), Falmouth Commodores (Guv Fuller Field, Falmouth), Hyannis Harbor Hawks (McKeon Park, Hyannis), and Wareham Gatemen (Spillane Field, Wareham).
- East Division: Brewster Whitecaps (Stony Brook Field, Brewster), Chatham Anglers (Veterans Field, Chatham), Harwich Mariners (Whitehouse Field, Harwich), Orleans Firebirds (Eldredge Park, Orleans), and Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (Red Wilson Field, South Yarmouth).
The Cotuit Kettleers hold the most championships in league history with 17. The Chatham Anglers have won five, in 1967, 1982, 1992, 1996, and 1998.
How to Attend a Cape League Game in Chatham
Attending a Cape League game is one of the best things to do in Chatham during the summer. Games are casual, family-friendly, and built around the grassy embankments that ring most fields. A little planning makes the night easier.
Do You Need Tickets?
No. There are no tickets for any Cape Cod Baseball League games. The league and all ten teams are non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations whose mission is affordable family entertainment. Many teams ask for a voluntary donation at the gate or "pass the hat" during the game, usually a few dollars per person. Those donations, along with sponsors and contributions, fund the season. Playoff and championship games are also free, and every game streams live at no cost on Cape League TV for iOS, Android, and connected TVs.
Where to Sit at Veterans Field
Seating at Cape League games is general admission with no assigned seats, so fans can settle almost anywhere in the spectator area. Veterans Field sits in a natural bowl, and the best spots are on the sloped right-field hillside where families spread blankets and low chairs. One rule to know: the league reserves designated sections directly behind home plate for MLB scouts only, and those areas are off limits to the public.
Parking and Directions to Veterans Field
Veterans Field is located at Depot Station in Chatham, just off Route 28 and steps from Main Street shops. From the highway, take Route 6 to Exit 10 (Route 124), turn right at the top of the ramp, then take the first left at the flashing light onto Queen Anne Road. Follow the "Business District" signs onto old Queen Anne Road, turn left onto Route 28, and the field is on the left past the stoplight. Parking near the field is limited on busy nights, so arrive early or plan to walk in from a downtown spot. The walkable location is one of the field's best features: you can grab dinner on Main Street, catch a game, and stroll to Kate Gould Park afterward.
What to Bring to an Anglers Game
A short packing list covers most of what you need for a comfortable night at Veterans Field:
- A blanket or low folding chair, since bleacher seating is limited and the hillside is the prime spot.
- A light layer or sweatshirt, because evening temperatures near the water drop after sunset.
- Cash or a card for the gate donation and the concession stand.
- An early arrival for weekend games and rivalry nights, which can draw over 2,000 fans.
What Is the Cape Cod Baseball League?
The Cape Cod Baseball League is a non-profit collegiate summer league that brings top NCAA players to ten Cape Cod towns each June for a wood-bat season. Officially formed in 1923, it traces its roots to an 1885 Fourth of July game between Barnstable and Sandwich. Players are recommended by their college coaches, must meet NCAA summer league guidelines, and live with local host families while competing.
The league switched from aluminum to wood bats in 1985, the first collegiate summer league to do so. That change raised its profile with Major League scouts because wood-bat performance translates more directly to professional play. The Cape League is now regarded as the top tier of summer collegiate baseball, and for years roughly one in seven MLB players came up through it.
The pipeline to the majors runs through these fields. Aaron Judge played for the Brewster Whitecaps in 2012 and captained Team USA at the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Chris Sale pitched for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in 2009. Pete Alonso played for the Bourne Braves in 2015, and Kyle Schwarber suited up for the Wareham Gatemen in 2012. The 2001 film Summer Catch, set in the league, was shot at Veterans Field in Chatham.
2026 Cape Cod Baseball League Internships
Cape Cod Baseball League internships give college students hands-on experience inside a working sports operation. For 2026, the league organizes its internships into three departments: League Administration, Cape League Media, and Cape League TV. Roles span baseball operations and video scouting, marketing and corporate partnerships, beat reporting and graphic design, photography, social media, and broadcast positions for Cape League TV.
The application process is straightforward but selective. Applicants should email a resume, cover letter, two references, and any video links to the league's media contact, and apply for only one position. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis while openings remain. Internships run from early June through mid-August, and accepted applicants are responsible for their own housing and transportation.
Individual teams run their own programs too. The Chatham Anglers, Cotuit Kettleers, and Harwich Mariners each post team-level internships that often cover a wider range of duties, from housing coordination to merchandise. Students should check each team's website and the league's main site beginning in January for open postings. You can review the official roles on the league's internships page.
Chatham Anglers: What to Know for 2026
The Chatham Anglers play at Veterans Field, a ballpark that has hosted baseball in downtown Chatham since 1923. The town firehouse and the Chatham Railroad Museum sit beyond the outfield fence, and the right-field hillside doubles as the main seating area. The field received its first major resurfacing in nearly two decades after the 2025 season, with a full replacement of the infield grass and dirt and an overhauled irrigation system.
Second-year manager Dennis Cook leads the 2026 campaign after guiding Chatham to its second-highest win total since 2019 last season. The Anglers open on the road at Bourne on June 13, then host Cotuit in their home opener on June 14. The team released an initial 48-player roster drawn from 27 colleges and universities across 20 states, Canada, and South Korea.
The Chatham connection to the majors stays strong. Blake Butera, who played infield for the Anglers in 2013 and 2014, was named manager of the Washington Nationals in early 2026. Fourteen former Chatham players took part in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, dating back to 2006 rosters.

2025 Season Recap and 2026 Storylines
The Bourne Braves won the 2025 Cape Cod Baseball League championship by sweeping the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in two games, their third title in four years. Bourne opened the 2026 season as defending champions, hosting Chatham on Opening Day. The league also inducted six new members into its Hall of Fame in November 2025, including Bill Walker, who hit .432 for the Chatham Townies in 1957.
The 2026 storylines center on the league's continued grip on the majors. More than 1,750 former Cape League players have reached the big leagues all-time, and the league sent more than 70 alumni to the 2026 World Baseball Classic. For Chatham fans, the headline is continuity: a returning manager, a deep roster, and a freshly resurfaced home field.
