Cape Cod Baseball League Schedule 2026: Times & Internships
The Cape Cod Baseball League is the top collegiate summer baseball league in the United States. Every summer, teams spread across Cape Cod recruit the best college players in the country for a regular season played entirely with wooden bats. The league has been running for over a century and continues to send players to the Major Leagues at a rate no other amateur league can match.
For the 2026 season, Opening Day falls on Saturday, June 13. Games run through early August, followed by playoff rounds that wrap up by mid-August. This guide covers the full schedule, typical game times, internship openings, and everything fans and visitors need to plan their summer around baseball on the Cape.
What Is the Cape Cod Baseball League?
The Cape Cod Baseball League is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, officially formed in 1923 but tracing its roots to an 1885 Fourth of July game between teams from Barnstable and Sandwich. Ten teams compete in two five-team divisions: the West Division (Bourne Braves, Cotuit Kettleers, Falmouth Commodores, Hyannis Harbor Hawks, Wareham Gatemen) and the East Division (Brewster Whitecaps, Chatham Anglers, Harwich Mariners, Orleans Firebirds, Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox).
College players from all NCAA divisions travel to Cape Cod each June. They live with local host families, work part-time jobs around their team's ballpark, and compete against some of the strongest amateur talent in the country. The league switched from aluminum to wooden bats in 1985, the first collegiate summer league to do so. That move raised the league's profile with MLB scouts because wood-bat performance translates directly to professional play.
In the 2025 MLB season, 392 Cape League alumni appeared on Major League rosters, according to the league's official count. More than 1,750 former players have reached the majors all-time. The league also sent more than 70 alumni to the 2026 World Baseball Classic, with former Brewster Whitecap Aaron Judge captaining Team USA.
2025 Season Recap: Bourne Braves Win It All
Before looking ahead to 2026, the 2025 season deserves mention. The Bourne Braves won the Cape Cod Baseball League championship by sweeping the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in two games, capping the series with a 19-2 blowout in Game 2. It was Bourne's third title in four years (2022, 2023, 2025) under manager Scott Landers.
Jon LeGrande of St. John's earned playoff MVP honors after slashing .444/.583/.630 with five doubles, five RBI, and five stolen bases across eight postseason games. The Braves open the 2026 season as the defending champions, hosting the Chatham Anglers on Opening Day.
The league also inducted six new members into its Hall of Fame in November 2025 at the Wequassett Resort in Harwich. The class included Bill Walker, who hit .432 for the Chatham Townies in 1957, alongside Gary Alexander (Orleans, 1986), Nick Gonzales (Cotuit, 2019), Travis Jankowski (Bourne, 2010-11), Pat Pinkman (Wareham, 1999-2000), and Bob Stead, a former manager, commissioner, and Hall of Fame founder.
Cape Cod Baseball League Schedule 2026: Key Dates
The league released the 2026 schedule on December 12, 2025. Here are the dates every fan should mark on the calendar.
- Regular Season: June 13 through August 2, 2026. Each team plays 40 games. Divisional opponents meet five times; cross-divisional opponents meet four times.
- Opening Day (June 13, 2026): Bourne Braves vs. Chatham Anglers, Wareham Gatemen at Cotuit Kettleers, Harwich Mariners at Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, Orleans Firebirds at Falmouth Commodores, Brewster Whitecaps at Hyannis Harbor Hawks.
- All-Star Game: July 18, 2026, at Whitehouse Field in Harwich, hosted by the Harwich Mariners. This marks the seventh time Harwich has hosted the midsummer showcase.
- Makeup Day: August 3, 2026 (used only if games with playoff implications were rained out).
- Playoffs: August 4 through 12, 2026. The top four teams in each division qualify. Three rounds of best-of-three series determine the champion.

Cape Cod Baseball League Game Times
Planning a trip to a game is straightforward once you know the typical schedule.
- Weekday games usually start between 4:30 PM and 7:00 PM. Common first-pitch times are 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM, timed for families and anyone heading to the ballpark after work.
- Weekend games often start in the late afternoon or early evening, with occasional 8:00 PM first pitches. Exact times vary by matchup, so check the league site before heading out.
Every game is free to attend. Teams ask for donations at the gate to fund operations. All playoff and championship games are also free, and every game streams live at no cost on Cape League TV, available for iOS, Android, and connected TVs.
Chatham Anglers: What to Know for 2026
The Chatham Anglers play their home games at Veterans Field, a ballpark that has hosted baseball in downtown Chatham since 1923. The field sits in a natural bowl of grassy embankments along Route 28, steps from Main Street shops. Fans spread blankets on the right-field hillside, with the town firehouse and the Chatham Railroad Museum visible beyond the outfield fence.
Veterans Field received its first major resurfacing in nearly two decades following the 2025 season. Sports Turf Specialities replaced the entire infield grass and dirt, removed protruding lips between surfaces, and overhauled the sprinkler and irrigation system.
Second-year manager Dennis Cook leads the Anglers into the 2026 campaign. Chatham opens at Bourne on June 13, then plays its first home game against Cotuit on June 14. The Anglers placed four players on the 2025 All-League Team and remain one of the league's most tradition-steeped franchises, with five championships (1967, 1982, 1992, 1996, 1998).
The Chatham connection to the majors is alive and well. Blake Butera, who played infield for the Anglers in 2013 and 2014, was named manager of the Washington Nationals in early 2026. Butera hit .357 in Cape League playoff games during his time in Chatham.
Legendary Alumni: From Cape Cod to the Major Leagues
The Cape League has been a pipeline to professional baseball for more than a century. Several of the game's biggest names played their summers on these fields.
Aaron Judge suited up for the Brewster Whitecaps in 2012. He is now Team USA's captain for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Chris Sale pitched for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in 2009 before becoming one of the most dominant left-handers in MLB history. Pete Alonso played for the Bourne Braves in 2015 and went on to set the New York Mets' single-season home run record. Kyle Schwarber played for the Wareham Gatemen in 2012 and represented the United States in the 2026 WBC.
Beyond recent stars, the league's alumni list includes Hall of Famers and generational talents: Todd Helton, Paul O'Neill, Lance Berkman, Will Clark, Jeff Reardon, Mo Vaughn, and many others. The 2001 movie Summer Catch, a romantic comedy set in the Cape League, was filmed at Veterans Field in Chatham and brought national attention to the league's culture.
In 2024, 415 Cape League alumni appeared on MLB Opening Day rosters. That number dipped slightly to 392 in 2025 but remains far ahead of any other collegiate summer league. The 2024 MLB Draft reinforced the pipeline: 114 Cape League alumni were selected in the first 10 rounds, including a record 15 first-round picks. Former Falmouth Commodore Travis Bazzana of Oregon State went first overall to the Cleveland Guardians.

Cape Cod Baseball League Internships
For college students studying sports management, marketing, communications, or business, Cape Cod Baseball League internships offer direct experience inside a professional sports operation. Interns work with individual teams and with the league office itself.
- Operations and event management roles cover everything from field prep and scorekeeping to coordinating game-day logistics across the ballpark.
- Marketing and communications interns handle social media accounts, write press releases, design graphics, and help manage each team's public presence throughout the season.
