On a quiet April morning, a phone call through Chatham's Reassurance Program became something far more significant, thanks to one dispatcher who trusted his instincts.
Chatham Police Chief Michael Anderson presented a Department Life Saving Award to Dispatcher Dana Grim at the Select Board meeting on May 19, 2026, honoring his actions on April 2, 2026, that helped save the life of a community member.

What Happened
While conducting a routine check-in call with a participant in the Town's Reassurance Program, Dispatcher Grim noticed that the woman on the line sounded off. Despite her assurance that she was fine, Grim followed his instincts and dispatched Police and Fire/Rescue personnel to check on her.
That decision made all the difference. Mary McDermott was evaluated on scene, transported to the hospital, and treated for a stroke. Medical personnel confirmed that Dispatcher Grim's timely intervention likely saved her life.
